My role:
I am personally interested in paternity apps and wasn’t happy with the ones available so I decided to design my dream app.
Created the initial concepts and led all UX design and research for the project.
The problem:
Pregnancy can be overwheming, especially for first time mothers. There are endless books, blogs, videos, and other resources to navigate.
The goal:
Create an app that provides all the resources an expecting mother needs to be reassured she is prepared to handle her new child and chapter of her life.

Primary Persona
User Research
I started by analyzing the pregnancy apps available to see what features they offered and other key attributes like usability and design.
Then I conducted user interviews with 5 of my close friends to gather real world feedback from mothers and soon-to-be mothers to hear what resources they were most interested in.
Key insights:
- Keep things simple: It’s easy to overdo it and get too wrapped up in the details, keep things simple so they are useful without adding stress.
- Hear from other mothers: Mothers really do know best, when it comes to things like recipes and exercise, advice from other moms is best.
- Make it fun: After a busy day of doctors appointments and other responsibilities, the app should be fun to use, not tedious.

Usability Testing
I created a figma prototype to conduct usability testing with my users. By iterating on the feedback I received, I was able to greatly improve the design of the app.
Improvements through user feedback
Final App Design
I am really happy with how the app turned out. The features evolved over time to be more simple and fun to use and the aesthetics captured the cute and friendly look I think moms will love.
Conclusion
“I wish this app existed when I pregnant last year!”
Quote from user interview
Impact:
All the moms I spoke to said this app would have made things so much easier to keep track of and way less stressful. It really gives me confidence that the app will make pregnancy easier for expecting mothers.
What I learned:
Like every project I work on, I learned a lot working on My Baby Bump. As a passion of mine, I had a lot of ideas coming into the project but the features and concept evolved a lot after getting real world feedback from users.
